Downtown hotel first new high-rise in 35 years

​​​An image of the new hotel in downtown El Paso.EL PASO – The Courtyard by Marriott Downtown El Paso hotel, the first privately owned high-rise built in Downtown in more than 35 years, opened early August 2018.

The 151-room hotel is one of the first Courtyard’s to use Marriott’s new design.

Owner Jim Scherr purchased the property at auction in March 2015 and demolished a vacant building on the site that once housed the Texas Workforce Commission. 

The new hotel is located next to Scherr’s Doubletree Hotel.
